Product Description

Ethylene Glycol2 is the simplest aliphatic diol. At room temperature, it appears as a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting viscous liquid, with two hydroxyl groups in the molecule respectively attached to two carbon atoms. The molecular weight of ethylene glycol is 62.07, its melting point is -13°C, its boiling point is 197.3°C (760 mmHg), and its density is 1.1135 g/mL (20°C). It features a high boiling point, a low freezing point and weak reducing property. It can be mixed with water in any proportion and is slightly soluble in ether. Ethylene glycol is chemically reactive and can undergo oxidation, esterification, polycondensation and dehydration reactions. It is an important organic chemical raw material and intermediate, widely used in polyester fibers, plastics, antifreeze, fine chemicals, nanoparticle preparation and other fields.

However, it should be noted that although ethylene glycol itself has relatively low toxicity, it can produce toxic metabolites in the human body. Even a small amount of intake can cause irreversible harm to the human central nervous system and various organs.
